Anicka Yi, Life is Cheap Exhibition
Norma Newton
Ants, bacteria strains and scents are among some of the materials Anicka Yi incorporates into her latest exhibition, Life is Cheap, at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York City. Yi, the 2016 recipient of the Hugo Boss Prize which recognizes outstanding achievement in contemporary art, worked with molecular biologists and chemists to create her immersive exhibit. The artist used a scientific approach to ensure her work engages all of the senses while providing a space to question how physical perception is affected by gender, race and class assumptions. We anticipate art aficionados and science lovers rubbing elbows at this innovative installation.
Life is Cheap opens April 21, 2017 and closes July 5, 2017.
